4.  ROAD TO MANDALAY RIVER CURISER ( NOVEMBER & DECEMBER 2007 )    www.diethelm.com.mm )

A journey along the Irrawaddy is a voyage of a lifetime The Irrawaddy, which runs the length of the country, all of Myanmar treasures, The elegant river cruiser Road To Mandalay provides the ultimate vintage point from which to adsorb Myanmar 's serene beauty, taking in its golden – spired pagodas, ancient temples.

OPERATE BY ORIENT-EXPRESS, the Road To Mandalay river cruiser provides an international standard of comfort and service previously unknown in this part of the world. The ship's stylish décor blends elements that reflect Myanmar 's traditional motifs with more contemporary touches, using fine local fabrics and furniture, Teak and other hardwoods from renewable forests have been used for the decking and decorative paneling, while exquisite lacquer lamps, fretwork friezes and marble details add elegance and warmth. In the restaurant , a lotus-flower motif on the carpets and soft furnishings complements the Burmese-inspired tables and chairs.

All of the 52 spacious , air-conditioned cabins come furnished with beautiful fabrics, fine linens and soft towels, and a friendly room service is available.

After a day of sightseeing, guests can take a relaxing dip in the on-deck swimming pool , enjoy a cocktail at one of the lounges or bars, listen to the resident pianist, or simply gaze at the surrounding beauty from the magnificent , canopied observation deck.

Guest lecturers offer a fascinating insight into the country's history and culture , while local performers, including dancers and acrobats, will entertain you in the evening. You can also look forward to delicious food, created by award-winning chefs, who blend the best of Eastern and Western delicacies to ensure a tantalizing journey for the taste buds. As the Road To Mandalay meanders along the Ayeyarwaddy, guests will see sacred cities, temples shrouded in mist, white and gold pagodas colored by processing of crimson-cloaked monks, and forgotten fishing villages where time has apparently stood still.

There are few corners of the world where you can hope to experience a genuine and unique culture in all its original charm. Myanmar , however, is such a place, and from the moment you arrive in this hauntingly beautiful land it will work its magic upon you.

Wandering through ancient cities will inspire you with a sense of the country's deep-rooted and fascinating history but, while Myanmar's graceful architecture, exotic customs and time-worn landscapes remain shrouded in mystery,
